What is Ministry?

Here are some differnt views that i have recieved on that question when asking for a one sentence answer. Feel free to comment or leave your own answer.

"What God does through us"
"Anything in your life through which others can see God"
"Sharing the Word of God"
"Using ones gifts to serve in the area you are in"

It's interesting that 'ministry' is not a fancy religious word in the Bible, it simply means 'service'. So the 'ministry of the Spirit' and the 'ministry of reconciliation' in 2 Cor 3:8 & 5:18 is simply serving Christ by making him known. Equally in 2 Cor 3:7, the 'ministry which brought death' is a really nasty way of talking about the service of the Law in the OT.

I guess there's a danger of using religious sounding words, and forgetting what it's all actually about - being a servant of Jesus Christ the Lord.

actually, i guess that waht you wrote is one of the answers that i am looking for. i guess my question was raised because so many people have huge definitions of different words, most of which are not that huge. I think it is really good to be able to look at words that have so much loaded baggage and really strip the baggage off them sometimes. It is also interesting that most words that we use today that might be used due to biblical context often have much more or varied meaning in our cultural context of today as well. there is also the theoretical definition and the applied definition which can often be quite different.
